Nice Airport to Monaco: routes, travel time and tips
About thirty kilometres separate Nice Côte d’Azur Airport from the Principality. On paper, that is half an hour by road. In practice, it all depends on the time of day, the route and the season. Here is what our chauffeurs have learned from a journey they make very regularly.

01 · The roads
Three roads to Monaco
Between Nice and Monaco, the mountains drop straight into the sea. So there is not one road but three, stacked along the hillside. Each has its own character.
The A8 motorway, the fastest
This is the route we take most often from the airport. The motorway loops north of Nice, then a slip road drops down to the Principality through a series of tunnels. It is a toll road, steady, and usually the quickest.
The Moyenne Corniche, for the view
It passes below the village of Èze, perched on its rock, with wide views over the sea. It is slower than the motorway, but many travellers ask for it on the way back, when there is no flight to catch.
The Basse Corniche, by the water
Villefranche-sur-Mer, Beaulieu, Èze-sur-Mer, Cap-d’Ail: the coast road runs through every resort along the shore. It is the prettiest, and the slowest, especially in summer.
02 · Travel time
How long does it take?
Travel time can double depending on the time of day. These are the rough figures we use to plan our transfers.
Outside rush hour: allow about 30 to 40 minutes by motorway.
At rush hour: plan for 50 minutes to an hour. In the morning traffic is heavy towards Monaco; in the late afternoon it is heavy in the other direction.
During major events: the Grand Prix, the Monaco Yacht Show or shows at the Grimaldi Forum make access noticeably slower, and some streets are closed.
These times are estimates: an accident or roadworks can change them. Your chauffeur follows traffic in real time and chooses the route accordingly.
03 · Your flight
When should you leave Monaco for a flight?
The method is simple: start from the time you need to be at the airport, then work backwards.
- Check the deadline your airline recommends for check-in and security.
- Add the travel time for your time slot.
- Keep a margin of about twenty minutes for the unexpected.
For example, to be at the airport at 8 am on a weekday, leaving Monaco at around 7 am gives a comfortable margin. Simply give us your flight number when you book: we will suggest a suitable pick-up time.

Train, bus, helicopter or private chauffeur?
There are several ways to travel between Nice Airport and Monaco. The right one depends on your luggage, your budget and your schedule.
- The train links the station near the airport with Monaco’s. It is inexpensive, but you carry your own luggage and work around the timetable.
- The express bus runs directly from the terminals. It suits travellers with little luggage who are not in a hurry.
- The helicopter reaches Monaco’s heliport in a few minutes of flight. It is the fastest option, with luggage and weather constraints.
- A private chauffeur meets you at arrivals and drops you at your door, at a price known before you leave.
We are a private chauffeur service, not a taxi: the journey is booked in advance and nothing is left to a meter.

Before you go
Where to be dropped in Monaco
Official information (times, access, programme) is published on the Visit Monaco website. We recommend checking it a few days before you travel, as details can change.
Monaco covers barely two square kilometres, but its districts are stacked up the hillside and linked by tunnels, ramps and public lifts, so the exact address matters as much as the time. Monte-Carlo and the Casino square, La Condamine and Port Hercule, Larvotto and the Grimaldi Forum, Fontvieille and its heliport, the Rock and the Prince’s Palace: tell us where you are going in Monaco and your chauffeur will use the right access.
Booking your chauffeur in practice
Whatever your journey, booking follows the same steps.
- You tell us your journey. Pick-up address, destination, date, time, number of passengers and bags: the online booking form shows the price before you confirm anything.
- You choose your vehicle. Mercedes E-Class or S-Class saloon for up to three passengers, V-Class for up to seven.
- You receive a confirmation. It sums up your journey and the pick-up time.
- Your chauffeur is waiting. At the airport, he follows your flight and waiting time is included for up to one hour after landing.
Payment is by card online or in cash. Cancellation is free of charge more than 48 hours before departure. For a special request, a group or a chauffeur at your disposal, write to us: we reply with a quote.
